Chad Hord

Chad Hord was born on August 21, 1976, in Iron Mountain, MI. Chad's parents, Ron and Marsha raised him and his older brothers Chris and Brian, and his younger sister Sara, in nearby, Felch, MI. Chad graduated from North Dickinson County School in 1994, where he ran track and played football. He then attended Bay de Noc Community College, where he received a degree in Machine Tool, CAD and became a certified welder.

Chad discovered the need for speed at a young age. Throughout his childhood, he was always on a dirt bike, three-wheeler or snowmobile. He did not only ride them, he used and abused them. He would modify and rebuild them so he could do it all again. As a child Chad attended the off-road races at Bark River International Off-Road Raceway. In 1995 Ron bought Chad a Super Buggy that they hauled to the races on an open trailer behind their Class C motorhome.

For the next five years the hobby of off-road racing grew. Chad worked for a machine tool company, and then purchased a skidder and began to work in the logging industry, while working on his buggy on the nights and weekends. In 1998 he won the World Championship and Triple Crown Championship with his Super Buggy. He also worked for MJ Electric as a heavy equipment operator. It was while working for MJ Electric that Chad landed his first major sponsorship. The owner of the company also owned BOSS Snowplow, and a motorsports enthusiast himself, he asked Chad to send him more information. With a sponsor on board, Chad took his top five running Super Buggy and won the Points Championship for the first time in 2000. The next year he moved into the Pro-Light class, where he continually ran in the top five and began to form valuable partnerships.

In 2001 Chad married Amy Anderson and they rented a house while they finished building their own home. Amy continues to work as an elementary teacher and a middle school/high school special education teacher, at North Dickinson County School, where she and Chad both graduated from, and their daughters now attend. In 2003 they welcomed their first daughter, Ashton Marie, and in 2005, their second daughter, Aiden Mae, was born. As Chad's family grew so did his race team. Chad's family has always been his priority and they are very supportive and involved in his racing. Amy takes care of the PR portion and hospitality area, while his daughters are his biggest fans. They also help scrape the body panels after the races. Chad and his family enjoy spending their time at their log cabin, where they go four-wheeling, snowmobiling and watch the deer.

Chad's persistence and professionalism paid off; in 2005 racing was no longer a hobby. Chad was able to make it his career. In 2006 and 2007 he won back to back championships in the Pro-Light division. In 2010 Chad moved up to the Pro-2WD ranks. He consistently ran in the top five and landed on the podium with both second and third place finishes. He finished fourth in the year end points standings.  In 2011, Chad participated in a two week AFE Pro-Off Road Truck tour to down range bases throughout the Middle East.  He also participated in the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb in a full production Nissan LEAF, taking first place in his class while setting the track record for the production electric vehicle class. The Hord Racing Team was also a competitive force in the TORC series, finishing 3rd in the Pro-2WD class, while taking home three Oakley Bomb Awards and winning the AMSOIL Cup Championship, a shoot-out racing where the Pro-2WD and Pro-4WD compete against each other.  Chad is one of a select few drivers who have accomplished this feat in a Pro-2WD in the 40+ year history of short course off-road racing.

Throughout his off-road career, Chad has won 31 races, three points championships, four World Championships, and has 125 top five finishes in 169 starts, including 25 wins in the pro-truck classes. He is also the first and only driver to have an Oakley Bomb Award for the fastest lap in all threevPro-truck classes and has seven Oakley Bomb Awards to date. Current sponsors of the Hord Off-Road Racing Pro-2WD are BOSS Snowplow, AMSOIL INC, Nissan, BFGoodrich,  Fox Racing Shox, Bosch Tool, and Walker Evans Racing Wheels.
