Menzies leads MacCachren by a mere six points, 306-300, with one SCORE race remaining
INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 17, 2011) – The Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL, would like to wish two of our top PRO 2 drivers the best of luck and a safe race this weekend as Bryce Menzies (Red Bull/Ram/Mopar/KMC Wheels) and Rob MacCachren (Rockstar/Ram/Mopar/AMSOIL/BFG) face off one more time – this time with the SCORE-International Trophy Truck class season championship on the line at the 44th running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1,000.
Menzies, the reigning Traxxas TORC PRO 2 champion, blew the SCORE series lead wide open this summer when he won his first-ever Baja 500. MacCachren, who was leading Menzies 138-129 heading into the Baja 500, clawed his way back into contention by placing higher than Menzies at SCORE’s penultimate round – the San Filipe 250. As it stands heading into this weekend’s contest, Menzies is up six points – 306 to 300 – for the overall Trophy Truck championship.
At last week’s draw for the all-important starting grid at Baja Menzies came away with a slight advantage, drawing the No. 4 starting position over MacCachren’s 9th place starting position. But that advantage can quickly be erased in the treacherous conditions the drivers face in more than 20-some hours of non-stop desert racing for the Trophy Truck class.
For 2011 – the 21st time in the race’s 44-year history – the start and finish line will be one in the same with the 693-mile race beginning and ending in Ensenada, Mexico. When the green flag flies on Friday 275 entries from 34 states and 16 countries will vie for multiple SCORE class championships – the biggest of which will be fought for by TORC competitors Menzies, the 2011 TORC PRO 2 champ, & MacCachren, who shares the record for most career SCORE Trophy Truck wins with Robby Gordon at nine each.
Also noteworthy, Menzie’s TORC Series teammate, reigning PRO 4 class champion Ricky Johnson, will contest the Baja 1,000’s Class 40 race.
