Abrams, WI (September 7, 2012) - Don Demeny headed to Crandon with one purpose, to win a championship. Heading into the final weekend of TORC Sportsman racing, the #885 Nsight Telservices/Cellcom/Mickey Thompson Tires RAM was only ten points out of the lead in the Super Stock Truck Championship.
The battle for the title had been tight all year, with Demeny near or at the top of the pointschart all year, and as teams prepared for the final two rounds in Crandon, the SST Championship would be a two truck race between Don Demeny and Danny Beauchamp.
The Sportsman rounds of racing at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway would be consisting of eight laps around the 1.6 mile circuit. The field would start with the traditional land rush start and then the field would regroup during the mandatory caution lap after lap four. Then to add a little more excitement, the track crew added two table top jumps on the front straightaway as well as a high speed long distance jump on the Skybox straightaway.
Saturday - Round 11
The land rush start saw the #885 Nsight Telservices/Cellcom/Mickey Thompson Tires RAM came outof Potawatomi Turn One in fifth place. As the race went on, the top five racers in the running order , which were also the top five in the points standings, began to distance themselves from the rest of the field. Demeny pushed his Nsight RAM to the limit and crossed the finish line in fourth place.
"We gave it all we had, but a few guys were better than us today," remarked Don Demeny. "With Beauchamp winning today ,we need to win tomorrow, and hope for a little luck on our side."
Overnight the team mounted up some new Mickey Thompson Tires, checked the valves on the RAM powerplant, and all the usual between race prep.
Sunday - Round 12
The final race of the season had Demeny chasing points leader Danny Beauchamp all race long. The start saw Demeny grab second place as he was right on the rear bumper of the leader Beauchamp. The two trucks ran close to one another during all eight laps. Demeny did everything he could, but Beauchamp held his lines as the two crossed the finish line with Beauchamp in first and Don Demeny in second.
"Man, we did everything we could to catch Danny today," noted Don Demeny. "Even if we won today, we needed some additional luck on our side to take home the championship. Congrats toDanny Beauchamp and his team we raced hard with each other all year and he earned the title. Thishas been a phenomenal year. I can't thank enough all my family and friends that come out and support what I do here at the track. I can't say enough about our sponsors, Nsight Teleservices, Cellcom, and Mickey Thompson Tires they are all just awesome to work with. We came close, really close to winning the championship.
